Turnitin vs GPTZero: which AI detector should students use?

TL;DR The final reading is Turnitin. GPTZero is free and explains sentences well, but passing it is not passing the school. Before you submit, use PaperMirror: report reading aligned with how instructors open an AI report, and red paragraphs you can edit.

GPTZero’s own comparison writes Turnitin as “caught after you submit” and itself as “scan while you write.” The part that holds for students: you cannot buy the school system, so you need a pre-submit tool. What they omit: you also need a rewrite loop and credits you can buy in CNY.

Do not fight official accuracy numbers

GPTZero cites its own benchmark; Turnitin is closed and hard to reproduce. Both can over-flag non-native writing. The accuracy that helps you is “same shape as the report the instructor opens, red paragraphs you can edit.” PaperMirror is built for that, not a claim of public-eval first place.

  1. Main self-check: PaperMirror scan + rewrite.
  2. Instructor named GPTZero: paste once more as a second opinion.
  3. Final: school Turnitin.

You cannot buy Turnitin. Self-check on a same-shape report.

Detection and rewrite are for pre-submit self-checks. Follow your school's integrity policy. PaperMirror is not Turnitin or CNKI. The school system is the source of truth.
